Prabal Gurung is fashion’s “hot newbie.”
If you’re on Twitter, you’ve been following every twist and turn of New York Fashion Week so far. You know what went down everywhere at FNO, and you know who’s sitting next to who (as I type… Rachel McAdams is sitting next to Anna at Alexander Wang). The Cut Tweeted, “At Prabal Gurung: Major Vogue presence, kind of a melée. Status as Hot Newbie is sealed.” So there you have it. And I heard the giftbag contained OxiClean. Interesting.
Nevertheless, the frocks that Gurung unveiled during his runway show on Thursday, September 10th 2009, were flaw-less. I loved this collection. He doesn’t over design. His silhouettes and looks are simple in theory, but executed with just enough unique flair that they’re recognizable. I can see these shapes becoming classic fashionista must haves, like the Phillip Lim Grecian one shouldered dress.
I adore all three of the dresses in this shot. The black and white bow cocktail dress is adorable. An 80s prom feel, but in a black and white palette = sophisticated and playful all in one. And i love the neckline. This black beaded number in the middle is AMAZING. I wish this could be mine. This dress calls for a serious attention to detail, and the big bow at the waist doesn’t distract like you think it would. This dress just works, and I love shape of the hemline. The black and red one shouldered dress is sassy, and a tad futuristic, which again, works. All three of these dresses are Red Carpet worthy, I hope to see many celebs donning Gurung’s creations very soon.
This gown is gorgeous. Look at that draping in the back…
Simple. Well cut, in a head turning hue. This is the kind of evening wear that gets me excited.
Wouldn’t you like to wear this to work? Or out for a drink?
This is where he gets a little edgy. I’m loving the superbly designed number on the far right.
This look might be my favorite. Simple, chic, different, detailed.
Prabal Gurung has talent. Seams to me like the fashion world has found a fresh face that’s here to stay.
