Blake Lively covers Marie Claire

November 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I’ll admit — I have a HUGE girl crush on Blake Lively. Let’s face it.. she’s gorgeous. Tall, blond, perfect, cute boyfriend, killer style. I once tried to grow my hair to Blake Lively lengths, and failed miserably (that’s why I sport a bob now). Anyway, the starlet graces the December cover of Marie Claire, and the November cover of Nylon, and looks amazing and radiant on both.

Enjoy this little snippet from the interview in Marie Claire:

The way you dress is so bold. You seem very comfortable with yourself right now. Living in New York, I feel stronger and more like a woman than ever before. In high school, it was like, what power do I have – I have long blonde hair, you know? But working as hard as I do now, I feel a sense of power and respect, too. And I’ve learned an incredible amount about fashion on Gossip Girl. Clothes are a personal expression, and my style is as ever-changing as I am: I’m growing, maturing, developing, I’m going through new things in my life, and with that, what I choose to wear changes.

I’ve always admired Blake for owning the clothes she wears. She takes risks, but always manages to look stunning, even when her outfits don’t necessarily work for me. She’s confident and has a great sense of personal style.

Here’s Blake on the cover of Nylon.. looking a little more edgy. (I’m reading the issue as I type!)

Shadowplay Jewelry Stands Out

November 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I do love jewelry as much as the next girl, but it takes something extra special to really catch my eye. This morning, Daily Candy featured Shadowplay Jewelry, and I was immediately impressed, and compelled to purchase!

Designer Heather Goldberg creates something truly unique in her pieces. Each piece is an intricate web of yarn, Swarovski crystals, etc. I really have never seen jewelry like this! Each piece reminds me of a romantic spiderweb. These designs are so original. Visit www.shadowplay.com for more information!

I have a Jimmy Choo for H&M Crush…

October 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Before today, I resolved that I would NOT wait on line at 6am on November 14th for Jimmy Choo for H&M shoes. However, I spotted a pair of shoes that may have changed my mind…

You see those cuties on the bottom right? I’m seriously contemplating braving the lines for them. They will retail for $149, so I’ve decided that I will not buy then unless I deem the quality sufficient. And I know they’re a little out there… but for some reason I can’t stop looking at them. I’m picturing them becoming my signature piece of footwear this fall. They are definitely unique, but I think they’ll make anything look better. This is what fashion’s all about right? Going outside your comfort zone and taking risks! I’ll keep you updated on November 14th :)

Michelle Obama on the Cover of Glamour!

October 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

First Lady Michelle Obama graces the December cover of Glamour. And doesn’t she look radiant?

glamour

Glamour - December 2009

MObama’s style has definitely reached buzz-worthy status. She’s been praised for wearing clothes from H&M and J.Crew while loving designers like Jason Wu, Thakoon, and Isabel Toledo. She has redefined the first lady look, and made the “power dress” an acceptable rendition of the sometimes-boring power suit. There are blogs and entire Look Books devoted to her. She is a style icon… but Cindi Leive, Glamour Editor in Chief, says that she picked MObama for the cover because she’s passionate about empowering young women.

(And she’s a style icon)

On style she talks about something that is pretty empowering:

“People are always going to have opinions, and people have a right to their opinions, particularly when you’re the First Lady; you’re representing the nation. So I can’t be surprised that people are interested. But I’ve tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else’s reflection.”

The key to style is being confident in your choices. If you think you look good, should it matter what anyone else thinks? Dress for yourself and you’ll always have enviable, effortless style.

October 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment

True to form, it doesn’t surprise me that I can’t get enough of Rebecca Minkoff’s site… minkette.com. Since I’m a web nerd, I love to see designers do something different with their online space, so naturally I love minkette.com. The site is THE place for Rebecca Minkoff fanatics like yours truly.

Don’t believe me? Check out the latest post — A sneak peak at Spring 2010!

This image is from a recent video shoot, which means the sneak peak video will be up on minkette.com soon — so check back often.

Another reason I love Minkette.com — the addition of celebrity guest blogger Shenae Grimes, star of 90210. She’s inspired me, a stick-to-the-classics kind of girl, to delve into the realm of retro shoulder pads! I can’t wait to try this trend using her easy, DIY tips!

Bottom Line: Minkette.com is a fun site for RM fans and lovers of fashion! So happy clicking :)

The Future of Fashion… According to some credible sources.

October 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

On Wednesday, New York City fashioniste flocked to the 92nd Street Y to discover where the Future of Fashion is heading. The discussion was led by Cindi Leive , Editor in Chief of Glamour. Leive was joined by panelists Ashley Olsen, Isaac Mizrahi, and Robin Givhan of the Washington Post who contributed to a hilarious and lighthearted discussion about the future of the industry in transition.

Isaac Mizrahi stole the show with his humor and outright hilariousness. Robin Givhan kept things serious by playing the role of intelligent fashion writer, and Ashley Olsen was well spoken and looked divine in a white The Row creation topped with a black Chanel jacket.

The panel discussed MObama and her status as fashion’s first lady, the idea of mixing high and low and getting it RIGHT, who women get dressed for everyday (the answer: other women!), and trends to love and hate. Mizrahi noted that his favorite trend is LOW-HEELED SHOES. Thank you, Isaac. I could not agree more. Ashley Olsen is loving TOMS Shoes, while Robin Givhan and Cindi Leive hope that platform heels never go away.

Here was my favorite quote from the night….
“Fashion Happens — Design is Eternal” -Isaac Mizrahi

And my favorite question of the night… Leive asked panelists to sum up the future of fashion in a phrase!

In the future… fashion will be:
“More Democratic” -RG
“Less obvious, more visual. More ‘fetishistic’” -IM
“More exciting” -AO

I don’t know what fetishistic means, and I don’t care.
Cheers to a more democratic, exciting, fetishistic future of fashion!

Rebecca Minkoff Darling is Divine in Wine

September 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been crushing on the Rebecca Minkoff DARLING bag since this summer. I love the slouchy shape, luscious leather, and perfectly placed details. The zipper down the front, the hardware, the tassels. It is, in a nutshell, my PERFECT bag. Slouchy, wonderful, and super chic of course.

It is a known fact that my favorite-ever RM shade is WINE. The color is breathtaking. Seriously. I’ve lusted after the Wine Matinee, but unfortunately, I’m not VHudg so the quest has been elusive. I hyperventilate at the sight of any Wine RM bag (I wish I was kidding).

This season, the Darling Bag comes in Wine. And since I have a very big 21st Birthday coming up… I am contemplating the purchase. I deserve it right?

Fashion Week Recap!

September 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

*Sigh…* Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone. Here were my favorite highlights of the week!

Favorite Show: 3.1 Phillip Lim
Why? Because in my book, Phillip can do no wrong. The clothes say it all…

Favorite Dress: Christian Siriano
Why? Because this dress is basically…perfection. I took one look at it and gasped. It’s gorgeous, and nothing caught my eye quite like this did. Siriano is talented, and this dress is SO elegant.

Favorite Front Row Celeb: Lauren Conrad
Why? Because she really is gorgeous in person! I spotted her at Rebecca Minkoff, and couldn’t help but envy her (probably faux) glow and long, perfectly tousled waves.

Coolest (sounding) Party: Marc Jacobs and V Magazine Party
Why? Because word on the street is that Marc’s parties are the best. My invitation must’ve gotten lost in the mail? And… Lady Gaga was there.

Strangest Show: The SNUGGIE SHOW
Why? Because if you were debating on buying a Snuggie before — now you have no excuse. THIS is fall’s must have. And at $14.95, how could you argue with that?

Best ‘Round the Clock NYFW Coverage: Nymag’s THE CUT, of course.
Why? Because The Cut and nymag.com’s Fashion Week Coverage was SO thorough. The Fug Girls provided us with the gossip, slideshows from every show were posted basically in real time, and with clickable features like this interactive Fashion Week Schedule, I felt like I didn’t miss a beat. They Tweeted, posted, and made me laugh, as always.

3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2010 RTW Impresses

September 17, 2009 · 1 Comment

The name Phillip Lim is becoming synonymous with American Sportswear. Season after season, he produces well constructed, unique pieces that have wearability at their core. He is brilliant at taking classic shapes and updating them, and also creating signature silhouettes that have made their way into every well-versed fashionistas “at a glance” repertoire (aka: you should be able to spot a Phillip Lim dress from a block away).

Season after season, Lim has produced sustainable fashion. New twists on classics that have proven to be good investments, and this collection was no different….

Rodarte Spring 2010 Ready to Wear

September 16, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Haven’t you ever seen a designers collection and thought… “wow, I wonder what was going through their minds as they designed this collection?” Many a times I’ve wanted to be a fly on the wall inside a designers brain, and this is exactly how I felt when I was looking over the Rodarte Spring 2010 Ready to Wear Collection. Kate and Laura Mulleavy really outdid themselves this time. I’ve always loved the Rodarte girls because they always bring something different to the table, and this collection is definitely different.

According to Womens Wear Daily, the Mulleavy sisters were inspired by the big, black, bald California Condors that faced extinction in the late 80s. Laura Mulleavy told WWD that, “We just kept thinking about how they had to scavenge to survive,” she said. “If they were mangled and tattered, how they would be reborn.” Dark and mildly disturbing, check. Another memorable season under the Rodate sisters’ belts, also check.

Rodarte is all about construction. And these pieces take that theme to a whole new level. They’re so intricate, you have to stare, zoom in, and think about how this was all pieced together.

Isn’t it crazy that the same girls that dressed Natalie Portman in this perfect, pretty, sugar plum-like chiffon confection also created these SUPER edgy looks? While I do think this collection was inspired, I kind of miss the sweet and pretty side of Rodarte. They’ve been doing edgy for a while.
